GOSHEN SOCCER CLUB
ABOUT OUR TRAVEL SOCCER PROGRAM
Travel soccer is a 10 month commitment. Teams are set up according to age with under 8 (U8) and U9 playing in a U10-3 division made up of other teams their ages, U10-U16 play conventional soccer with the number of players on the field increasing as the players get older. Some U9 teams play in a new U10 Developmental League. Teams will travel to half of their games. These games are normally in the Orange County area, but some teams may travel to Eastern Pike, PA, New Paltz, Kingston or Wallkill.
The season starts with tryouts in early May. Your child need only attend one of these sessions. The tryout takes approximately 1 hour. Soon after tryouts your child will be notified by his age division coach letting him/her know if he/she has been selected or not. Practices will then begin sometime in August. Teams may practice as many as three times per week until the team starts playing games. Games are played on Sunday. The Fall season is 10 weeks long beginning after September 1st.
After the fall season teams move indoors. Practice time will be one day a week after school because we practice in the school gyms. Teams will play in indoor tournaments on weekends. Usually teams play two - six tournaments over the winter. These tournaments cost about $350 each. Teams may do fund raisers or collect additional money from parents to cover these costs.
In the spring, teams head back outdoors for another 10 week season. Games usually begin the first weekend in April. Practices will 2 or 3 times per week. ALL players U10-U13 must then tryout again in May.
Other Concerns
We will attempt to host an indoor tournament in February and a golf outing in the spring. We will be asking you for 3 or 5 hours of your time (depending upon the number of children you have in the travel program).
Our club meeting is held the second Wednesday of every month. All parents are asked to attend these meetings so that they may stay up to date with all matters concerning our club. These meetings begin at 7:30 and are held at the high school. The club meetings in July and August are held at the Craigville Park Pavilion. Travel players may not participate in our Recreation program.
